Size – Bamboo Window Shades Tip 2

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

DSC_3937smallLocating the right size blinds won’t be a big deal as blind manufacturers make a wide variety of sizes, but measuring properly for the shades is a completely different story.

TIP 1: When measuring the height of the window and comparing it to available sizes, going one size up is always a good idea.  The reason is if you measured a little off and got the exact length, it might be a bit short which defeats the purpose, but shades that are a little to long hide nicely stacked at the bottom.  This leads us to tip number 2.

TIP 2: The same rules apply for measuring the width of the window for the window shades.  If you measure just the width from edge to edge of the glass and don’t include any of the actual window trim you will end up with blinds that are to narrow and not wide enough.  A good rule of thumb is to include the width of the glass and window trim in the overall width measurement.  It will still fit nicely between the window casings.

Bamboo Window Treatment

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

When it comes to bamboo window treatment there are two main types.  Below I’ll give a quick overview of the differences between the two types of bamboo window shades.

  1. Bamboo Roman Shade – This type of bamboo window treatment is usually constructed of some sort of woven bamboo cloth that lays very flat when the shade is down.  They are opened and closed with a pull cord.  When the pull cord is pulled the roman shade stacks as it goes up into very even sized panels.  These types of window treatments do a great job of blocking out the sun from coming through the window.
  2. Bamboo Roll Up Blinds – These blinds have a similar look to the bamboo roman shade when they are in the lowered position.  The look is very flat, but instead of a woven bamboo they are a grouping of very thin pieces of bamboo.  When this type of bamboo window treatment is raised it uses the same type of pull cord, but the blind rolls up.  Think of the same way you would roll up a sleeping bad or yoga mat.

There are other variations, but they generally fall into one of the two above mentioned types.  There are other things to consider after deciding on which type of bamboo window shades you would like such as price, size, and color.
